Bows

While your electric can share a bow with your acoustic violin, it's usually a good idea to get a bow and case just for your electric. Because your electric is so often used on stage, on the road, or outdoors, we mainly carry and recommend bows with sticks made of synthetic materials. Not only are they more durable and generally less expensive, but even the cheapest synthetic bows usually outperform a similarly-priced wood bow, until you get above about the $1,000 price level.

CodaBow

CodaBow Electric

They practically invented the market for carbon fiber bows, and Coda is still the largest player. Their line-up goes from relatively inexpensive bows, to professional bows in the thousands of dollars. The first of their bows we carried was the CodaBow Electric. Quick and light in the hand, this bow was a clear standout with its flashy, color-changing paint, and excellent playing characteristics. However, its tone production is a bit weaker than the Glasser braided carbon fiber bows.

CodaBow Diamond SX

The new CodaBow Diamond series bows take the idea of a synthetic bow with a solid stick and play Coda's unique variation on that theme. The core of these bows is a stick made of Kevlar, so it's extremely strong, but also quite flexible. The result is a bow that pulls a great tone, has a balance and feel closer to pernambuco, and is a bit more supple and responsive in the hand than the stiffer stick of the Glasser braided carbon fiber bows.

We carry all the CodaBow Diamonds that are currently available, the Diamond SX and the phenomenal Diamond GX. We've even collaborated with CodaBow to develop our own EVS custom version of the still-in-development Diamond NX, which pulls a bigger tone than the prototype NX we tried, but is very quick and light-feeling in the hand, while giving the player excellent control.

Glasser

Our least expensive bow is Glasser's basic Glasser fiberglass bows. A solid working tool for the beginning player, this is the bow that's added to our cheapest bow & case upgrade. We also carry their carbon composite 2000-X bow in black and several colors; call for availability.

Glasser BCF violin

At the top of the scale are the wonderfully affordable, amazing Glasser braided carbon fiber bows, for both violin (round or octagonal ) stick, viola, and cello. Most carbon fiber bows have a hollow core to the stick. By developing a solid stick wrapped with a carbon fiber weave, Glasser's aim was to develop a professional-quality bow that a non-professional player could afford. We think they've succeeded admirably, and these bows are well-night impossible to beat in the "bang for the buck" department. They draw a huge tone from electric or acoustic instruments, and boast a balance and feel that you couldn't easily find in a wood bow without spending twice the money.

J.T. Prism violin colors

J.T. Prism

The J.T. Prism line of carbon fiber bows are an incredible value for the money. The balance and feel of these bows is quite comparable to the much-more expensive CodaBow Electric, at one-third the price! Light and quick in the hand, the J.T. Prism bows draw a good, solid tone from both acoustic and electric instruments. This is a fabulous step-up bow for a beginner or intermediate player, and also makes a great back-up bow for more experienced players that
want something more durable for playing outdoor gigs or bars and pubs.

Best of all, the fun factor on these bows is off the charts, with brightly-colored or jewel-tone metallic bows for violinists, violists, and cellists. Call for availability of specific colors, as our stock changes almost daily.
