Why I *heart* my NS 5-string Cello Review by Shana T.
(in no particular order)
1. it doesn't have an endpin (so i can dance & play)
2. it has a shoulder strap (so i can dance & play)
3. it has a tripod stand (so i can stand [or dance] & play)
4. it has a vicious low 'F' string (real gangster)
5. it has options for ideal pizz, arco or both
6. it definitely sounds like an e-cello, but has great tone
7. it looks beautiful (i named mine "Prettyhead")
8. i can play "thumb-optional" high on the fingerboard
9. i can fit it in carry-on (bless the LORD)
10. it's a limited-edition, US-made work of art
I'm experimenting with sound, and literally learning how to play this cello from scratch. For as many similarities as there are it really is a different instrument. The low 'F' shifts everything over...thanks OregonFiddler for mentioning that you use your LR Baggs DI...i'm going to bust that out and see if it makes a difference in honing the sound i want. I've been loving my Fishman Loudbox Mini for both the cello, my guitar AND my vox. but I think that Baggs DI might make a serious difference. (Posted on 9/25/11) -
I love my cello! Review by OregonFiddler
My first instrument was the cello, but later I fell in love with playing Irish style fiddle. I started wishing that I could play fiddle tunes on the cello without transposing everything down a 5th, so I got a CR5. I love this instrument! I use an LR Baggs Venue DI box and a Behringer Ultratone K900FX keyboard amp, and the sound is fantastic! Beautiful tone, no feedback problems, sensitive response and NO THUMB POSITION. I get lots of compliments on the way it looks, too. (Posted on 10/31/10)
