An incredible value with superb sound Review by Frank
This pickup met my expectations and then some! It faithfully reproduces the nuances of sound in my old french violin. I installed one a little over a month ago.
My only complaint, if there is one, is that the G string output is almost too strong. But I was able to tame that on my Fishman Loudbox Artist by dialing the low frequency eq down to about the 9 o'clock position.
This pickup actually has the highest output of any of my amplified violins, so much so that i have to engage the input "pad" on my amp to decrease the signal. To me this is simply amazing, considering that it is a passive pickup.
I did find that it worked better to install this into the treble wing slot. Installing it into the bass wing slot biased the output too far towards the lower strings.
Another great feature is the use of a carpenter jack by EVS. This allows me to tuck the jack partially under my chin rest.
Thank you, EVS! (Posted on 3/28/16)
Totally worth it!!! Review by Kiki
This was my first pick up. It's been a great investment. The only adjustment I needed was sanding down some of the wood on my bridge so it would fit better. This pick up has opened up a whole new world of what I can do as a violinist.... including being able to play in a metal band. The Kremona pick up has a great balance of tone along with a clean sound. It has great overall quality and very affordable. (Posted on 6/3/15)
Best solution I've found for Violin Pickup Review by Mike
This is my 2nd Kremona pickup... One for my fiddle tuned in "A", and one for my fiddle in conventional tuning.
This is a great pickup, the sound is true and pure, installation is easy and quick. Within 5 min of receiving the package I had installed the pickup and was playing through an amp.
Greta value for the price. (Posted on 12/21/14)
great pickup Review by Irishbandleader
i bought this for my fiddler after the live mic (a converted drum mic) started popping during a gig. Live mics may sound good but are problematic for gigs in two major ways. First off the wire is too small and breaks connection internally with heavy use and cannot be fixed without major surgery. The second thing is that although you get a more "live" sound the feedback problem looms for every new venue that you play and as the sound board guy it is no fun to have to worry about that. When i got the Kremona i was worried my fiddler would not like me sanding any part of her bridge to fit the pickup but to my surprise no such fitting was needed. It wedged in perfectly and the sound was GREAT! after one balance adjustment we were off to the races with the security of a carpenter jack 1/4" cable to handle the movements of our fiddler and band set up and tear down abuse without worry!!! This is the best value investment if you are a band that gigs a lot like we do. NO MORE FEEDBACK WORRIES !!!!! (Posted on 6/15/14)
An excellent violin pickup Review by Gene Huang
I bought this violin pickup from EVS and I am very impressed with it. Everything is as advertised. Very easy to attach and detach, and holds the cable in place firmly. Took a few minutes to find the right place to clamp it on so that it would not get in the way of my shoulder rest. When I first started playing, there was a slight rattle, but it went away after taping the wire down with a piece of surgical tape. I have it plugged into my Fishman Loudbox Mini. It sounds excellent; even better than my Realist RV-4 which is also very good. Playing my violin unplugged with the pickup attached does dampen the sound ever so slightly (for me that's okay, since my wife thinks it's too loud when I practice anyway ;). Also, I can put the violin back in its case with the pickup still attached. I'll likely keep it installed most of the time so I can quickly switch back and forth between acoustic and electric play. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase. (Posted on 5/18/14)
Thanks for a great, and affordable, pickup solution for acoustic players. Review by Jeff
You asked, and so here it is...
I purchased one of your EVS acoustic pickups about a month ago, when I came by to visit your shop. Installation on my old fiddle was very straightforward, and with a little bit of filing, it fit right on the bridge with a nice snug fit.
I am running this into either a LR Baggs Gigpro, or a Sonus Tube Acousti-Q Preamp. With either preamp, I am blown away with the tone and sound quality of your pickup. I was initially a bit skeptical since I have worked with piezo pickups on different instruments for years, and not that many have impressed me. I am happy to say that yours is an excellent addition to my sound.
The tone is full, balanced, and I think, very natural for the instrument. The output is pretty high into my preamps, but with a little tweaking, I got it to sound great in little time with no drastic tone control adjustments.
On a final note (no pun intended), the pickup did not alter the acoustic sound of my fiddle, that I can tell. I played it with and without the pickup installed on the bridge, and I really can't notice any difference.
Thanks for a great, and affordable, pickup solution for acoustic players. I plan to add two more to my other acoustics in the future.
