Vector Instruments
We usually have a great selection of four and five string Vector Prodigy violins, and occasionally even a six string Prodigy Pro, as well as five string Prodigy violas and sometimes a Vector Cellette lightweight cello. Check out the Vector instruments we currently have in-stock, here.
When it comes to hand-made electric violins, Nick Tipney of Vector Instruments takes the concept farther than just about any other supplier we deal with. He lives on 40 wooded acres in Nova Scotia, and actually selects his own trees, to get much of the wood he uses for his electric violins.
The main instrument we carry is the Vector Prodigy, one of the lightest electric violins on the market. Weighing in at only 1.1 pounds, it's actually only an ounce heavier than most acoustic violins. The version we most often carry is a tiny bit heavier than that, as we've asked Nick to add a volume control to our instruments. It's the one thing most of our customers who'd previously purchased Vector Prodigys from us wished that the instrument had.
The Vector Prodigy is available in four and five-string models, equipped with Schatten Designs transducer bridges. It's one of the quickest and most responsive electric violins on the market. It has quite a natural acoustic tone, with a strong, full, open sound, and virtually none of the compression of tone (resulting in a slightly nasal, bass-heavy sound) that some players dislike in many of the multi-element transducer bridges.
Paired with the wrong amplifier, the Vector can occasionally be a bit "hot" sounding on the E string, but through a good acoustic amplifier, this instrument has a fantastic sound, and plays like a dream. The Vector Prodigy is another excellent choice for acoustic styles of music such as Celtic, folk, bluegrass, or country, as well as players in praise bands and worship groups.
Color choices include an amber-stained maple top with lower bout and central spine in a walnut color, or a variety of customer transparent or opaque color combinations. We usually have maple/walnut and teal/black, and we occasionally try out different color combinations, as well.
Nick also offers a Prodigy Pro, equipped with bridges from Barbera Transducer Systems. If you want a six-string Prodigy, this is your only option, but some four and five-string players looking for a stronger output signal, richer bottom end, and a slightly more compressed sound may prefer the Prodigy Pro. It's an especially good choice for rock violinists, who often need the extra punch of the Barbera bridge.
Violas and Cellos
Vector also offers four and five string Prodigy violas and two models of four, five, or six string cello, the Allegro and the lightweight Cellette. We nearly always have a five string Prodigy in-stock, usually in a teal or purple transparent stain over the maple top with a black lower bout and central spine, strung with a low F. We also occasionally have a Cellette available, as well.
As with all of our suppliers, Electric Violin Shop can special-order a custom Vector violin to your exact specifications. A fifty per cent deposit secures your order, and the balance is due when Nick delivers the instrument to us.
