If you want an instrument for both acoustic and amplified settings, consider an acoustic-electric violin. An acoustic-electric violin has a hollow body you can hear just like your regular violin, and built-in electronics for amplification. Despite the hollow body, most acoustic-electric violins will not feed back unless you get really loud.
