Yamaha Silent and Electric Violins

In 2006, Electric Violin Shop was the number one dealer for Yamaha Silent Strings and Electric Strings! We'd like to express our appreciation to the many customers who have placed their trust in us, for helping us to achieve this goal. As the electric violin market continues to grow, we'll grow with it, continuing to bring you the unique combination of extensive product knowledge, expert shop setup, and exceptional customer service that you've come to expect from the world's only specialty retailer for electric bowed strings.

Yamaha has one of the most complete lines of electric bowed strings of any manufacturer on the market, ranging from the entry-level to the professional. While their program started with the now-famous SV-100 "Silent" Violin with headphone jack for personal practice, they quickly embraced the growing market for electric violins, offering wide range of color and feature options at a variety of price points.

Violin

Violinists get the most options from Yamaha. They offer the entry-level SV-120K(formerly the SV-110, referred to as the Yamaha Concert Select Violin), the warm, very acoustic-sounding SV-200K (sometimes called the Studio, Pro, or Pro Studio), and the most electronically sophisticated violin in their product line, the EV-204 four-string and EV-205 five-string (the EV series instruments are also called Performer). We compare the pros and cons of Yamaha's three distinct product lines for violinists on our Yamaha Violin Showdown page, here.

Viola

Viola players only have the one option from Yamaha, but it's an excellent one, the SVV-200 "Silent Viola". Essentially a viola version of the SV-200, it has the same outstanding tonal qualities, and does a great job of reproducing the sound of an acoustic viola.

Cello

For cellists, Yamaha has the entry-level SVC-50, the wonderfulSVC-110 (a fixed-form design, emulating much of the outline of an acoustic cello), and the outstanding SVC-210 "travel" version, with collapsible knee braces. The SVC-50 is an acceptable instrument if intended primarily for "silent" practice, but 'cellists with an ear for tone who need the most naturally acoustic sound possible will definitely want to move up to either the SVC-110 or the SVC-210.
