Aurora 4-string acrylic electric violin with LEDs, silver
The Aurora electric violin has a sleek, curvy body crafted from clear acrylic. The new silver metallic finish gives this version of the Aurora a flashy, bold stage presence even without the LEDs. Built-in LEDs change the color of the light that shines through the instrument, dramatically changing the violin's appearance. The silver metallic under the acrylic also spreads the light from the LEDs, enhancing the instrument's appearance on darker stages.
Amplified tone is good -- warm and natural; the rear tone knob allows you to boost the bass, or add treble if you want a brighter sound.
Imported from Brazil, the body of the Aurora electric violin by Atelier Audio is crafted from clear acrylic. The Aurora is a beautiful violin, its swoopy, ray-like body giving it a sleek, modern look, that's only enhanced by the built-in light show. Red, green, and blue LEDs can be turned on and off in combination, giving you seven different colors for the light that shines through the instrument, dramatically changing the violin's appearance. This new silver metallic version of the Aurora has a bold, strking appearance even when the LEDs are off. The silver metallic finish also does a great job spreading the light from the LEDs, making it an even better choice for darker stages. On this particular Aurora, the central spine, neck, and peg box are made of wood, and painted with a matte silver metallic finish, to match with the silver finish of the acrylic body.
Powered by a relatively simple but effective dual piezo pickup system, the Aurora's amplified tone is good; warm and natural. The pickup is passive, so there are no complex electronics to add a possible point of failure. A tone knob allows you to boost the bass to add warmth or richness to the lower register, or you can pump up the treble if you prefer a brighter, more brilliant tone. Both the tone and volume knobs have the feel of high quality potentiometers; the tone knob has a center detent, so that you can tell when the equalization is "flat".
The Aurora is easy to play, with all of the physical reference points right where they should be, and its design should work with most standard shoulder rests. It's a little heavier than some electric violins, but not enough to cause a problem for the average player. The on-board LEDs of the Aurora are powered by a single coin-cell battery, which has no effect on the instrument's sound. Even if the battery is completely dead (or removed), you'll still get plenty of signal to your amp or PA.
Electric Violin Shop includes a dart shaped case with the Aurora violin.
